What causes wrinkles?
Wrinkles are a natural part of the ageing process. With age, skin cells divide more slowly, The inner layer of the skin, called the dermis, begins to thin, and the network of elastin and collagen fibres, which support the outer layer, loosens and unravels. This process results in depressions on the skin surface.
Along with this natural ageing process, facial muscle contractions, sun damage and smoking also contribute.
Ageing fine lines can be distressing but they can be softened.
Wrinkle Treatments
Ageing is a definite process that results in the wrinkling of the skin. At Flux Skin, our team are highly experienced with anti-wrinkle injections to give you a more youthful appearance. To make sure that the team is always at the forefront of cosmetic treatments, we conduct training days on an ongoing basis. During these days, our staff get together for training, sharing and collaborating to improve their practice.
Practitioners around the world use Botox ® injections to treat wrinkles and fine lines (forehead lines, frown lines & crow feet). Botulinum toxin has been used in hospitals around the UK since 1977 and within the cosmetic industry for over 20 years. There are 70 countries in which Botox is widely used, and 4 million patients a year have treatment in the USA alone.
Wrinkles and fine lines can be identified in two ways: expressive or static. Expressive lines are those which are evident when expressing emotion. Static lines are those which remain evident even when the face is relaxed.
The main areas that are affected by expressive and static lines and may benefit from an anti-wrinkle injection are:
Glabella – Frown lines
The Glabella is the area between your brows. Over time, some may find a deep line that becomes quite prominent. The use of Botox can relax the muscles to stop you from overworking that area and reduce the appearance of that static groove.
Forehead – horizontal line
Likewise, the forehead is an area where we tend to get both expressive and static lines. The use of botulinum toxin relaxes the area to stop over-expression.
Crows’ Feet – Corner of the eye
This is a concern many of our patients have. Many believe the eye (and lip) area to be the most obvious site for ageing. It is always important to check that the injector administering treatment is highly skilled when injecting around the eyes.
Bunny Lines – Top of the nose
Bunny lines are most evident when smiling. They form on the bridge of the nose, near the tear duct of the eye. If in doubt, picture a bunny scrunching up its nose. While it might not be an obvious area to treat, it can be a bugbear for those who do not like how their smile appears in photos.
Brow – Lifting of the brow area
Surgery is usually the last resort for patients. They wish to get great results all the same, but would rather not go under the knife, and that is completely understandable. Botulinum toxin can be used as a non-surgical alternative to a brow lift by introducing the solution to key points, relaxing the muscles we use to frown, and lifting the weight that we naturally want to push down.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Even when treated by highly qualified practitioners, results are temporary, and treatment is ongoing. Patients usually have an injectable treatment every 3-4 months.
Expert Practitioners
Our highly experienced practitioners at Flux Skin use two main toxins: Botox® manufactured by Allergan (POM) & Letybo® manufactured by Croma-pharma. Botox® is the original product on the market with a large emphasis on safety. It is the result of years of studies and is used extensively in medicine. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) first cleared this particular brand of botulinum toxin in 1989, making it the first approved form of wrinkle injection in the world to target wrinkles and fine lines. These injections are a natural, purified protein that temporarily relaxes facial muscles causing fine lines and wrinkles. This injectable treatment is an established brand name and can treat conditions like hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), a wide jaw and others.

Technical Information
The UK has very few regulations around Botox injections and dermal fillers. There is an independent body that acts as a watchdog over those administering treatment. However, there are still many injectors out there that are sub-standard and use cheap products that are compromised or not safe.
Botox ® is a branded form of botulinum toxin. Many mistake the brand as a general term for the treatment, which is simply not the case. For this very same reason, many practitioners falsely claim that they use the branded product.
Not only do you need to feel comfortable with your practitioner on a personal level, you also need to make sure that you feel confident in their abilities, skills and knowledge. We always advise prospective patients to do their research and form educated decisions.
